If you've been playing with the array of games available to download for the iPhone and iPod touch, you will be familiar with a game called Tap Tap Revenge. By using up to three fingers, players press the screen when a coloured light rolls across the screen along similarly coloured lines. This is done to the rhythm of several different songs, and the player is scored on their accuracy. More recently, Tapulous, the developers behind the Tap Tap Revenge series of titles, have been able to coax more and more better-known artists into adding their songs to the available library. Acts ranging from Coldplay to Lady GaGa have contributed to the franchise, and the latest in the series, Tap Tap Revenge 3, will allow you to download additional premium tracks from artists such as Foo Fighters and The Killers from within the application. Music-centric casual gaming like this is a format that has been dominated in the home gaming console world by two franchises: Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Most recently, Rock Band has coaxed the rights holders of The Beatle's back catalogue to licence imagery and master recordings to The Beatles: Rock Band, while Guitar Hero have come under the drunken, drug addled scrutiny of Courtney Love (join the club) for it's overly active digital representation of Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5. The time has come for one of these heavyweights to make their way onto the iPhone & iPod Touch (via the iTunes App store). TechCrunch recently came across some hard evidence of the upcoming release of a Rock Band title for the iPhone & iPod Touch. Upon further nudging for information, they were also able to find out that it will have premium (read: downloadable for a fee) content, and have a 4-player multiplayer mode via Bluetooth. Soon your morning commute may be punctuated by someone stabbing frantically at their mobile phone...and enjoying it!
